Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city lights
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close; I heard a voice
Standing, stretching every nerve
I had to listen; had no choice
I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom boom boom - peter gabriel

an ancient story

When I awoke I thought I might be looking at evil right in the eye, but it was just Axel.

"Did you know what he was?" I pushed him away, bared my knees right in his chest.

"I told you I couldn't. There was no way I could feel it. Its his majek, you know." He struggled back then rolled me over to the ground.

"Its majek all right. Wicked majek." I shrugged. "He's got a dragon on his side." Or was that the other way around?

"A dragon? How could that be?" He jumped to his feet then. Shook his head. "Impossible."

"Evidently, not." I looked away. What was I to do?

"But all have been-"

"Been what?"

"Sentenced."

"Sentenced? Sentenced to what?"

He sighed then as if it wasn't enough to mention, "Well, there was this war between the elves and the dragons, centuries a go. Before the rest of us, I should say. It was not good." He went back to concentrating on the morning fire for breakfast. It was barely a glow.

"Wait a minute? Elves? There are no elves, Axel."

"Oh, there will always be elves, Enid, you just can't spot them, immediately, thats all." He started the porridge then.

"But what about the dragons?"

"It didn't look good for the dragons. Elves are smooth warriors, you know. But there was this one, Alfred, I believe, who thought he could train them or some such voodoo, if that. He was a sorcery of some kind. Only no one ever knew for sure which side he was on. So you still couldn't trust the dragons he captured and mated. But I suppose it came, that thing you saw, from one his eggs." He stirred the sloppy mess in the black pot.

"But what of the dragons. How could this be?" I then noticed Duncan was no where to be found. Probably with his love Anya.
