"What is he?" Axel and I have had little time to discuss this shadow on our back. Duncan keeps insisting that we need him. Shall we run from him when there is no place to go? "I don't know. He's not a demon. I don't think unless there is a new breed I'm not aware of." We got to talking late the next night since I was afraid to dream and how else was he to comfort me. Perhaps I am lucky and spoiled, after all. "How do you do it, anyway? At least after all this time you could tell me?" "Um, damned if I know, I just do." He shrugged as always. He's afraid, I bet, to share as much. "But what happens when you take over? You know as you did my dear sweet monk, he would have never ever done those things to me, otherwise, but you were him. I know that now. I don't think he ever loved me really until Brother turned him." I kept pressing him but I didn't think he'd likely talk. "It just is. A thought occurs and I treacle in like rain and we are one." "But does it hurt them." I squinted thinking what a bloody headache. "Don't think so. Just sleep really. Have you forgotten already the times I took over you, did it hurt?" "I can't remember. Bloody, why didn't take over during all those pains I bore with Angeline then?" "Can't be two places at once, now can I?" He sighed. "But you couldn't get in to Duncan, though, how could that be?" "I assume he knows magik of some kind, this is how." He nodded. His small smile slightly twitched. "So what do we do?" "Find out what he wants, let him in to your dreams." He would advise such nonsense. "But I don't want him there. It gives me the hardy hollows thinking of a ghastly intrusion. What if he gets nasty?" "Nobody gets as nasty as your brother." As if that was a bright spot. "I know, thats just it. What if he's connected to him, somehow?" "Then you should find out." "Me?" I can't count on him for anything.
